The Legend of Kampu and Kambo Medicine

In the traditions of the indigenous peoples of the Amazon, legends are powerful vehicles for ancestral wisdom. One of the most emblematic is the story of Kampu, a tribal leader believed to have discovered Kambo medicine, a ritual used to cleanse the body and mind.

The legend tells of Kampu, a respected and wise leader of his community, who lived in the Amazon rainforest. One day, his tribe was struck by a severe illness. Traditional healers had no remedy, and the situation was becoming increasingly desperate. Determined to save his people, Kampu decided to venture into the jungle in search of a solution. However, he knew that to find the cure, he would first need to seek guidance from the spirits.

Kampu turned to ayahuasca, a sacred brew known for its visionary properties. After drinking this mystical brew, he entered a deep trance, where the spirits of the forest guided him on his journey. After traveling through invisible realms, he encountered the giant tree monkey frog. This creature, endowed with healing powers, revealed to him the secret of a curative secretion that could be extracted from its skin: Kambo.

Kampu brought this knowledge back to his tribe, and the Kambo ritual became a fundamental practice for purifying bodies and minds. The frog secretion, applied to the skin after small burns, triggers an intense purification process, releasing toxins from the body and offering profound spiritual healing.

Today, the Kambo ritual, inspired by Kampu’s experience and his journey with ayahuasca, continues to be practiced in many Amazonian communities and is gaining increasing interest worldwide.
